Project: Book Design

As an independent project, I came up with the idea for a book to showcase the many manly and creative ways one can wear his mustache proud as well as tell the history. After researching and choosing the content, I decided to draw inspiration from block letterpress work of Hatch Showprint. I designed block phrases to start each chapter, illustrated a timeline set stache, and worked in straight razor flourishes. I chose to hand assemble the book with french folded pages to give it more thickness and perfect bound spine. The pages were printed on Speckletone paper by French Paper. During this project I developed an understanding and greater appreciation on how books are made and the many different types of bindings. In addition, I expanded the campaign to include bus stop boards to advertise the book’s release.
